The “Mostarda Italiana” is a very particular dish that originates in the North of the country. Fruit was treated in water and sugar syrup flavored with mustard. The appearance looks like fruit or vegetables in syrup, but by adding the mustard, the combination becomes an conflagration of taste.

Italian Mostarda is excellent with "Prosciutto crudo", salami, and matured cheeses as a starter.

Curiosity

Mustard is only used as the spice added to the syrup that preserves and gives a particular taste to the fruit. It is such a particular and regional recipe that there is no real translation for "Mostarda di frutta" in English.
